Summer Field Day Details:
The 4R Technology Review & Summer Field Day is an additional learning opportunity designed for CCAs to earn six (6) CEUs in a hands on environment. This workshop is open to all who are in need of CEUs, and this year we holding it at the ISU Field Extension Education Laboratory in Boone, IA. (click here for directions)
Certified Crop Advisers can earn a total of 6 CEUs during this summer workshop offered by the Agribusiness Showcase & Conference. We ask that all attendees who will be receiving free admission to pre-register (RSVP) online by August 4, 2017 to secure your seat at the workshop. Berns Announced as the 2017 Iowa Certified Crop Adviser of the Year
Brian Berns of Lohrville, IA was announced as the Iowa Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) of the Year during a recognition luncheon held for the organization at the Agribusiness Showcase and Conference, held February 14, 2017.
The Iowa Certified Crop Adviser of the Year Award is designed to recognize a CCA who delivers exceptional customer service, is highly innovative, has shown that they are a leader in their field, and has contributed substantially to the exchange of ideas and the transfer of agronomic knowledge within the agriculture industry.
Berns lives north of Churdan with his wife, Lori and two children, Chloe and Jake. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Agricultural Business Management and a minor in Agronomy. Berns was noted for his dedication to his customers and his diligence in providing excellent customer satisfaction.
Berns has been an agronomist for Landus Cooperative the past 23 years based out of Farnhamville and Churdan, and has been a Certified Crop Adviser since 1996. He has been quick to adopt innovative tools and techniques to help his customers be more successful. A fellow CCA comments “Brian is not your typical cooperative agronomist” he has tremendous respect for the farmers and the communities that he serves.
CCAs utilize their skills in nutrient and pest management to assist growers with economical and efficient crop production. They also ensure that growers are aware of regulations and utilize best management practices to protect the environment.
Years of Service Awards Presented to CCAs by Iowa Board
The Iowa Certified Crop Advisers (CCA) board of directors recognized thirty-one individuals for fifteen years (certified in 2002) and ninety-six individuals for twenty years of professionalism (certified in 1997) and years of service to agriculture as CCAs during the annual CCA Years of Service luncheon on Tuesday, February 14. The luncheon is held in conjunction with the Agribusiness Showcase & Conference (ASC) in Des Moines, Iowa. Iowa CCAs utilize their skills in nutrient and pest management to assist growers with economical and efficient crop production. Two Iowa CCAs Given the Secretary’s Ag Leader Award at the 2017 ASC
On February 14, 2017 Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey, presented two agribusinesses and two Certified Crop Advisers (CCAs) as recipients of the Secretary’s Iowa Ag Leader Award. Northey recognized Dow AgroSciences and Two Rivers Cooperative and CCAs Kellie Blair from Dayton and Jim Anderson with Remington Seeds in Williams. (more…)

Returning in 2017 is the morning session with coffee and donuts, starting at 8 AM in the Varied Industry Building on the Iowa State Fairgrounds. The CCA award luncheon will have an ALL NEW format! We will continue to present awards and provide a catered lunch, but we will be adding an exciting twist. Announcements for the schedule/speakers and new luncheon format will be provided in the December newsletter “Good Advice”. We hope to see you all there!
